Wildlife and Disease Prevention

By Procyon Volunteer on June 11, 2026June 16, 2026

Wildlife can carry diseases, parasites, and bacteria that may not be immediately visible. At the same time, human contact can expose vulnerable animals to pathogens that may impact their health and rehabilitation.

For this reason, volunteers should never:
• Allow wildlife to come into contact with their face
• Handle animals without appropriate protective equipment
• Place bare fingers in the mouths of raccoons or other wildlife

These precautions help protect everyone involved and support the best possible outcomes for our patients.
