Raccoons won the race this year and likely squirrels will be very close behind.
The first couple are still very small (2 with umbilicals still) and will be in foster for at least a few days.
A few more are expected tomorrow and sounds like they are a bit bigger and likely bottle babies.
With a mix of experienced volunteers and those that have been with us for a while but not done babies yet and some very new we need to be sure that every shift has someone that knows how to feed babies so we are reviewing the current schedule to ensure that’s covered. With so few staff this will be a challenge. We have also noted many call outs for the Easter weekend. PLEASE let Crystal or Sarah know if you believe there is no one on your shift trained for bottle or nipple feeding babies to make sure we don’t miss any that we need to ensure someone covers for training.
We expect to start morning shifts at 6 am after the Easter Weekend
Those babies that can stay at the centre will return from foster by Monday so PM Shifts expect to be full time until 11 pm starting Monday, April 6th. Babies always need their last feed to be as close to 11 pm as possible to allow them to wait until their turn in the morning.
Starting Tuesday April 7th – Morning shifts will begin their normal time of 6 am starts with babies needing to be fed right away after a long night.
The rhythm of shifts will change with littles in house and many shifts will start and end with baby feedings that need time between to digest (at least 3 hours) so be sure to check the feeding schedules on the big board before doing any other duties (outside or once or twice a day feeds and care ).
This is an exciting time and a time to ensure that we all work together to make sure that these helpless infants get the care they need.
Your commitment is what makes us able to save these little lives and it means everything. Once again – THANK YOU
We will be monitoring carefully to ensure we can handle the babies coming in and will be limiting intakes to only what we can handle – if you note the schedule you’ll see some very short handed shifts so that number will have to remain very small until those shifts get stronger. We will also be fostering out as much as possible to help with the load. If you are interested in fostering please reach out to Debra on what’s involved to get approved and registered.
Here we Go !!!
