CSJ Program Update

By Procyon Volunteer on June 25, 2026June 29, 2026

By now you are already likely missing the first few CSJ students that started in late April.   With these placements being limited to only 8 weeks – it goes by sooo fast.  (Miss you already Marielle & Sterling).

Please take a moment to thank those that are about to roll off.  Ashley, Kate and Zach will be finishing up over the next week.

For June and July we have been  so pleased to have Robyn back and to welcome Katelyn.  Next week the first of our final 4 will start that will help out over July and August.

As with all of our placement students this year, we are blessed that they all are pursuing careers in the animal care field and will be able to use skills they learn with us for the betterment of wildlife throughout their futures.

During the changeover’s it may seem confusing to know who has and has not yet been trained in certain areas.  We do provide our online training and one on one shadowing to start but there will often be times you may encounter a situation where the student has not been shown how to perform a task yet.  For any basic task please help them to get started.   With backgrounds in Animal care, Biology, and previous animal care experience there will be varying levels of experience so any time in doubt please ask if they are comfortable with a task and help ensure that our Procyon processes are followed and that all remain safe.

As always we will continue to schedule for those shifts that need help – as long as we know.  It remains essential to communicate any shift shortages. Using the online tool remains the best option for clear visibility.  For those that have had trouble please reach out so we can help you.  It is a very user-friendly and simple system.  If anyone is not yet registered on the just4volunteers site please do – it’s the best way to access all our training tools – full manual, videos, tips and tricks and of course to see the schedules with up to date information.

By August we will be down to the last 4 CSJ students along with Crystal, Angel and Peyton and so filling in all the blanks will get harder.  The majority of the critters by then should be self feeding and some early spring babies will be getting released.

The CSJ program must finish by Aug 30th so we will be back to “just us” by September to deal with those that are not yet ready to release, and any second litter babies that come in later in the summer.  Keeping an eye on our shifts will determine how many second round babies we can manage.

As always, if you have any questions about the CSJ program please contact me (Sarah).

Thanks again,

Sarah
